1. Council Funds Bike Share Program with Key Partners
LINDSBORG - The Lindsborg City Council approved the allocation of $16,500 to continue its popular bike share agreement with KANcycle for 2025-2026. The program’s success, which consistently sees high ridership, has garnered continued financial support from community partners. Both Bethany College and Lindsborg Community Hospital have agreed to increase their contributions to $3,000 each, reducing the city’s net cost for the program to $10,500.
2. Sundstrom Center Faces $15,486 HVAC Repair
LINDSBORG - The Sundstrom Conference Center will undergo significant HVAC repairs after the City Council approved a $15,486 expenditure. The system has been plagued by a persistent coolant leak, requiring multiple costly recharges over the past year. After a four-day investigation, repair company DCS located what they believe to be the source of the leak in an evaporator coil. While council members expressed hope this would solve the issue, it was noted that this is the contractor’s best suspicion, and a guarantee is not provided. The repair allows the city to avoid more invasive measures, such as cutting into walls to search for other potential leaks.
3. Hyllningsfest to Pilot Liquor Sales in Beer Garden
LINDSBORG - In a notable change for a major community event, the Lindsborg City Council has approved a plan to allow liquor sales at the upcoming Hyllningsfest. The council approved a special event permit for Whiskey Wagon to operate the beer garden on October 17th and 18th. The event will serve as a pilot program to evaluate the impact and feasibility of including liquor alongside traditional beer sales at future special events. The beer garden, operated by the state-licensed caterer, will be located in the parking lot east of City Hall and will expand into Lincoln Street for Saturday evening’s live music.
4. City Approves New Generator for Public Works
LINDSBORG - The council authorized the purchase and installation of a new 13 KW standby generator for the Public Works department at a cost of $7,265.94. The decision came after the existing generator failed to transfer power during an outage, although its engine would still run. A repair estimate for the old unit came in at $10,564.21, making a full replacement the more economical option. Public Works Director Denny Walker explained the generator is critical for powering the building’s computers, which help identify power outage locations, and for operating bay doors so crews can access equipment during an emergency.
