City staff to receive year-end bonuses
LINDSBORG, Kan. - As part of the consent agenda, the council approved Payroll Ordinance 5566, which includes a "modest Christmas gift" for all city staff members. Mayor Clark Shultz noted that this is a yearly tradition for Lindsborg, intended to show appreciation for the hard work of city employees throughout the year. The item was passed unanimously along with the rest of the consent agenda.
City approves $100,000 transfer to capital improvements
LINDSBORG, Kan. - The council voted unanimously to transfer $100,000 from the local half-cent sales tax fund to the Capital Improvement Reserve Fund. Finance Director David Hay recommended the transfer amount, which is double the typical $50,000 allocation, citing available revenue and the need to cover deferred maintenance and general upkeep. The fund is supported by the 0.5 percent sales tax specifically designated for capital improvements and equipment purchases.
Sales tax revenue covers budget overages
LINDSBORG, Kan. - Finance Director David Hay presented a spreadsheet detailing "overages" from the past year that were covered by the unallocated half-cent sales tax. Specific items cited included higher-than-expected costs for painting the Lindsborg Swimming Pool and an $825 overage for the city’s audiovisual system. Hay explained that the healthy sales tax revenue allows the city to absorb these unexpected maintenance costs without impacting the general operating fund.
Swensson Park restrooms to receive security upgrades
LINDSBORG, Kan. - The parks director received approval to purchase and install new commercial-grade metal doors and frames for the Swensson Park restrooms at a cost of $5,722. The director reported that the current facility suffers from rotting doorjambs and failing deadbolts, forcing staff to board up the doors with plywood during the winter. The council awarded the contract to a local door contractor to improve security and durability at the facility, which is typically closed from Halloween to Easter.
Contract awarded for golf course cart paths
LINDSBORG, Kan. - The council voted to contract with a local construction firm for $14,760 to pour concrete cart paths at the tee boxes on holes 5 and 7 at the Lindsborg Golf Course. Recreation Director Lauren Doak noted that while three bids were solicited, the firm was the sole bidder. The project, which is funded through the annual budget, also includes gravel work for the maintenance shop path and is expected to be completed before the spring season opens.
Golf course concrete project nearing final phase
LINDSBORG, Kan. - Recreation Director Lauren Doak informed the council that the multiyear project to pave cart paths at the golf course is nearly complete. Following the approval of the work for holes 5 and 7, only two paths remain to be paved, which are scheduled for the 2026 budget. Once those are completed, future capital expenditures for the course will shift toward maintenance and repairs of existing infrastructure rather than new pouring.
