Sign up freeErica Kramer, a pre-K teacher at Lincoln Elementary School in McPherson, was named the October recipient of Ad Astra Radio's Classroom Hero Award, presented by Peoples Bank and Trust, according to the station's Oct. 13 announcement.
Kramer's nominator described her as an “amazing human being” who makes students feel loved, supported and excited about school. The nomination also credited Kramer with helping families, creating opportunities for children and starting a girls' running club outside the traditional classroom.
Kramer, a McPherson native and Emporia State University graduate, has taught pre-K throughout her 19-year teaching career. “I've always loved helping people and especially little kids,” Kramer told Ad Astra Radio. “I love the energy that they bring.” Her classroom also includes fish, an axolotl and several reptiles that introduce students to unfamiliar animals and new learning experiences.
Ad Astra Radio said it randomly selects one educator each month from community nominations. Kramer received a “Thank You” gift basket with items from Peoples Bank and Trust, Midway Motors, Stutzman's Greenhouse and Hutch Putt. Representatives from Ad Astra Radio, Peoples Bank and Trust, Midway Motors and USD 418 surprised Kramer with the award. Nominations remain open through the station's Classroom Hero page.
