Lightning strike disables traffic signal at 22nd and Vine streets
Intersection converted to four-way stop until control cabinet is replaced
HAYS, Kan. — Drivers must treat the intersection of 22nd and Vine streets, which also serves as U.S. Route 183, as a four-way stop after a lightning strike destroyed the traffic signal cabinet early Sunday. While the intersection's poles and signal heads survived the weekend thunderstorms without extensive damage, city officials said the control system requires complete replacement. Crews are working with suppliers to expedite a permanent or temporary cabinet to restore normal traffic flow along the highway as quickly as possible.
