LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Why Sarah Hendricks supports the school bond

Longtime resident cites need for modern facilities to match teacher excellence

LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Why Sarah Hendricks supports the school bond

To the Editor,

As a lifelong member of the McPherson community, I am writing to express my strong support for the upcoming school bond vote.

My parents were raised in McPherson. I was raised here. My husband and I made the intentional decision to raise our three children here as well. This community has shaped our family for generations, and our public schools have been at the heart of that story.

I chose to become a public school teacher because of the educators who taught me in McPherson. They inspired me, challenged me, and showed me what it means to care deeply about students. I wanted to offer that same investment to the next generation. Our teachers continue to do remarkable work, but they are doing so in buildings that are beyond the point of simple maintenance. Many of our facilities no longer provide the space, flexibility, or infrastructure that modern teaching and learning require.

This bond is not just about buildings. It is about supporting the teachers who pour themselves into our students every day. It is about creating learning environments that match the excellence of the educators inside them. I want teachers to choose to stay in McPherson and feel proud of that decision. I want families to be able to say that we offer not only the best teachers, but also state-of-the-art facilities that fully support student learning.

Investing in our schools is investing in the future of McPherson. I hope our community will join me in voting in support of this bond.

Sincerely,

Sarah Hendricks, Director of Student and Family Ministries
McPherson First United Methodist Church
