Lady Pups Edge Buhler 44-41 in Overtime Thriller on Homecoming Night
Whitfield's 16 Points Lead McPherson to Dramatic Victory
The McPherson Lady Pups delivered a homecoming night to remember Thursday, defeating Buhler 44-41 in overtime at the Roundhouse. After building a nine-point first-quarter lead, the Lady Pups held off a determined Crusader rally and pulled out the victory with five overtime points to improve to 9-10 on the season.
Rylie Whitfield led McPherson with 16 points, including four three-pointers and a perfect 4-for-4 performance from the free-throw line. Brooke Doile posted eight points and dominated the boards with 11 rebounds, while Piper Alvord added seven points and dished out two assists. Jersey Alexander contributed three points with four steals and two assists, while Audra Sandbo and Caysen Blake each chipped in with key baskets off the bench.
The Lady Pups jumped out to a 15-6 first-quarter lead but saw Buhler battle back to tie the game multiple times in regulation. Tori Tustian led the Crusaders with 11 points, while Kaia Edmund added nine points. McPherson's defense came up big when it mattered most, forcing 24 turnovers and recording 14 steals to secure the overtime victory. The Lady Pups will travel to Circle on Tuesday for their next contest.
