Lady Pups Capture Back-to-Back Patriot League North Championships
MMS Completes Perfect 14-0 Season
The McPherson Middle School girls basketball team capped off a dominant season by claiming their second consecutive Patriot League North Championship with a decisive 39-6 victory over Circle on Sunday at Haysville West.
The Lady Pups completed a perfect 14-0 campaign and extended their remarkable middle school winning streak to 28-0 over two seasons, showcasing a complete team effort and suffocating defense throughout the tournament.
In Friday's semifinal matchup, McPherson overwhelmed Haysville West 71-14 behind a balanced offensive attack. Elles Pavlovich led the way with 16 points, 8 assists, and 4 steals, while Kinsley Postier posted a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds to go along with 4 steals.
Noelle Schmidt (12 points, 4 assists), Abby Schieferecke (12 points, 4 assists), and Mylee Cooke (12 points, 3 steals) each contributed 12 points in the semifinal rout. Myiah Crawford Dingman added 5 points and pulled down 9 rebounds.
Sunday's 39-6 championship victory over Circle showcased the Lady Pups' defensive dominance. Postier led all scorers with 9 points and 4 rebounds, while Crawford Dingman contributed 8 points, 4 rebounds, and 6 steals.
Schmidt stuffed the stat sheet with 7 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals. Pavlovich also recorded a well-rounded performance with 6 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals. Schieferecke added 5 points and 3 steals, while Cooke chipped in 4 points.
"High skill sets plus high IQ's, athletic and relentless defenders, tremendous shooting team that really shares the ball and more often than not makes the right play," said head coach Matt Sandbo of his championship squad.
The back-to-back league titles and perfect season highlight the program's excellence and the team's commitment to playing unselfish, fundamental basketball. The Lady Pups' 28-game middle school winning streak stands as a testament to their sustained dominance.
