City Council Seeks Over $23,000 Grant to Expand Youth Hockey Program

KEMMERER - The Kemmerer City Council unanimously authorized an application for a $23,243.94 grant from the Lincoln County Recreation Commission to significantly expand the town's youth hockey program. If approved, the funds will be used to purchase crucial equipment, including pants, jerseys, gloves, and chest protectors, enough to create 40 complete sets for local children. The grant request also includes a "Zamboni" ice resurfacer, which officials say will save significant staff time. This initiative builds on previous equipment acquisitions and aims to make the sport more accessible and safer for families in the community.

Airport Completes Pavement Project, Removes Wreckage from Crashed Plane

KEMMERER - Kemmerer Municipal Airport has completed its major seal coat, crack seal, and pavement marking project, returning the airfield to full operation. In a report to the council, officials also confirmed that the wreckage from a recently crashed airplane has been successfully removed from the airport by a specialized company. With these projects concluded, airport staff are now focusing on preparations for the upcoming fly-in event and a lighting project scheduled to begin in early October.

Gas Franchise Agreement with Enbridge Tabled Once Again

KEMMERER - The City Council has once again postponed a final decision on a new franchise agreement with Questar Gas Company, now operating as Enbridge. The ordinance, which would grant the company rights for the construction and operation of gas infrastructure in Kemmerer, was briefly taken off the table before being re-tabled for a future meeting. Council members indicated that there were no new developments or a final agreement ready for review, necessitating the delay.

City Pledges to Address Storm Drain Issues in Next Year's Budget

KEMMERER - Following resident concerns and an internal investigation that included sending a camera into the system, the Public Works department has committed to addressing a recurring storm drain problem as a capital expenditure project next fiscal year. The Public Works Director acknowledged the issues, stating that while the system is currently draining, a more permanent fix is needed. He informed the council that he will wait until closer to June to seek cost estimates to ensure the numbers presented in the budget are as accurate as possible in the current market.

Kemmerer Police Department Represents City at Funerals for Fallen Utah Officers

KEMMERER - The Kemmerer Police Department sent officers to Utah to attend the funerals of two peace officers who were recently killed in the line of duty. The department’s presence was a gesture of solidarity and respect for the fallen officers and their communities. Council members thanked the department for representing the town, noting that such actions are an important sign of support within the law enforcement community, regardless of public recognition.

Accessibility Upgrade Nears Completion at City Hall

KEMMERER - City Hall is one step closer to improved accessibility, as all materials for new automatic ADA-compliant doors have been delivered. According to the Parks Director, the project is now simply waiting for an electrician to complete the installation. The upgrade will ensure that the primary entrance to the civic building meets the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act, making it easier for all residents to access public services.

Annual Community Picnic and Chamber Gala Highlight Local Spirit

KEMMERER - The city celebrated a series of successful community events, including the fifth annual JCPenney Golden Rule Days Community Picnic and the Fossil Basin Chamber of Commerce Gala. The picnic, held on August 28th, honored residents from Kemmerer, Diamondville, and Opal and featured food from local businesses. The Events Coordinator thanked the numerous volunteers and city staff who helped make the events a success. Council members praised the high turnout and positive atmosphere at both gatherings, highlighting them as examples of the community's strong business presence and civic pride.
