KDHE Rescinds Stream Advisory for Tuttle Creek Cove After Water Quality Tests Show No Contamination

MANHATTAN, Kan. — The Kansas Department of Health and Environment has lifted its stream advisory for the Tuttle Creek Cove on Tuttle Creek Lake after water quality testing confirmed the water is safe for contact. The advisory was issued after a commercial barge became submerged in the lake March 15, releasing diesel fuel from an onboard tank. KDHE, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Environmental Protection Agency's Region 7 office conducted comprehensive sampling at both the spill site and downstream at the confluence of the Big Blue and Kansas rivers, with results showing no fuel-related contaminants above drinking water standards. A monitoring plan will continue, and water quality testing downstream of Tuttle Creek Lake remains ongoing.
