Kansas State Expected to Hire Belmont's Casey Alexander as Next Basketball Coach
Alexander led Bruins to 10 consecutive 20-win seasons and three Missouri Valley regular-season titles
MANHATTAN, Kan. — Kansas State is expected to hire Belmont head coach Casey Alexander as the program's next men's basketball coach, according to ESPN. Alexander replaces Jerome Tang, who was fired last month toward the end of his fourth season in charge. Alexander led the Bruins to a 26-win season and the Missouri Valley Conference regular-season title this year before a quarterfinal exit in the conference tournament.
Alexander is 166-60 in seven seasons at Belmont, where he won three regular-season championships and helped transition the program from the Ohio Valley Conference to the Missouri Valley Conference. Before Belmont, he spent six seasons at Lipscomb, leading the Bisons to the 2018 NCAA tournament, and two seasons as head coach at Stetson. Despite his sustained success, the Bruins never reached the NCAA tournament under Alexander — his first conference tournament title in 2020 was rendered moot when the event was canceled due to the pandemic.
Alexander's Belmont roster included only two seniors in a nine-man rotation this season, and several players with remaining eligibility could follow him to Manhattan. Sophomores Sam Orme, who averaged 12.7 points per game, and Drew Scharnowski, who averaged 10.7, were among the most productive underclassmen in the group.
