Kansas SNAP Recipients to Receive Full November Benefits

Federal court ruling ensures $31.6 million distribution to 86,000 households after USDA funding suspension.

Kansas SNAP Recipients to Receive Full November Benefits

TOPEKA, Kan. — Governor Laura Kelly announced Friday that Kansas families receiving food assistance will get their full November SNAP benefits after a federal judge ruled the government must fully fund the program despite an ongoing federal shutdown. The Kansas Department for Children and Families began processing more than $31.6 million in benefits to approximately 86,000 households, with funds expected on EBT cards by end of day November 7.

The distribution comes after uncertainty earlier this week when the U.S. Department of Agriculture initially suspended SNAP funding and later issued guidance for only partial payments. Governor Kelly had joined a lawsuit against the USDA on October 28 challenging the suspension as unlawful. All Kansas SNAP recipients will receive benefits on the same day rather than the typical staggered distribution over 10 days based on last names.

While November benefits are secured, December payments remain uncertain as the federal government shutdown continues. DCF Secretary Laura Howard praised the quick response by state workers to process multiple benefit changes and coordinate with processing partners. Kansas SNAP recipients can check their balances and protect benefits through the FIS ebtEDGE portal at ebtedge.com or the official mobile app available in app stores.
