Kansas House Democrats make campaign push in Central Kansas cities

Kansas House Democrats continued their statewide outreach effort with stops in central Kansas communities last weekend, bringing their message to areas where the party lacks legislative representation.
The "Fight Back Tour" drew crowds to Abilene and Hutchinson on June 20-21, marking the fourth and fifth stops in a series designed to engage voters ahead of the 2026 legislative session.
Former State Rep. Jason Probst served as guest speaker and moderator at the Hutchinson event, addressing attendees despite sweltering temperatures that reached into the 90s.
"Kansans are excited to hear from us and to be able to share their thoughts and concerns with state legislators," said House Democratic Leader Brandon Woodard. "It's more critical now than ever to visit the areas specifically where we do not currently hold seats and speak to those communities."
Local county Democratic parties participated in both events, with organizers emphasizing direct voter engagement in traditionally Republican-leaning districts.
The tour represents a strategic shift for Kansas Democrats, who have focused resources on competitive urban and suburban districts in recent election cycles. By visiting rural and small-town communities, party leaders aim to rebuild connections with voters who may feel overlooked by state government.
Six additional stops are scheduled through late August, including visits to Garden City, Dodge City, Pittsburg, Hays, Kansas City and Leavenworth. Democratic officials said more events will be announced for late summer and early fall.
The initiative comes as Kansas Democrats prepare for the 2026 midterm elections, when all 125 House seats and 20 of 40 Senate seats will be on the ballot. Republicans currently control both legislative chambers with substantial majorities.
Party officials have not disclosed attendance figures for the recent events, but said community response has exceeded expectations.
Information about upcoming tour dates and registration is available on the Kansas House Democrats website.
