K-State Extension to Host Beginning Rancher Series in South-Central Kansas
K-State Research and Extension offices in Butler, Sedgwick and Cowley counties will host a two-part Beginning Rancher Series this month and in December for those new to ranching or looking to expand their cattle operations.
The series begins Nov. 18 at 6 p.m. in Sedgwick County and continues Dec. 9 at 6 p.m. in Butler County. Both sessions will include a light dinner at 6 p.m., with programs running from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Jason Warner, a K-State Extension cow-calf specialist, will lead the Nov. 18 session on body condition scoring and vaccine storage. Warner focuses on beef cattle production and management practices.
The Dec. 9 session will feature Jaymelynn Farney, a K-State Extension beef systems specialist who will discuss land use, stocking rate and plant identification. Farney specializes in integrated beef cattle and forage systems.
The Nov. 18 session will be held at an unspecified location in Sedgwick County. The Dec. 9 session will take place at the Butler County Community 4-H Building, 320 N. Gorham in El Dorado.
