K-State Extension to Host Babysitting Clinic for Youth in Wellington

WELLINGTON, Kan. — Sumner County K-State Extension will host a babysitting clinic March 20 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Raymond Frye Complex, 320 N. Jefferson St., in Wellington.

The clinic is open to youth ages 10 and older who are interested in becoming babysitters. Participants will learn about the responsibilities of babysitting along with community partners.

The registration fee is $15 and is limited to 20 participants. Registration is required by March 13 at https://tinyurl.com/SUCOSitter.

The clinic schedule includes:

  • 9:40 a.m.: Check-in
  • 9:00 a.m.: The Business of Babysitting
  • 9:40 a.m.: Infants 101
  • 10:30 a.m.: Safety and Wellness
  • 11:30 a.m.: Lunch and Movement
  • 12:20 p.m.: First Aid and CPR
  • 1:00 p.m.: Development and Activities
  • 2:00 p.m.: Dismiss

Youth will gain knowledge in preparing for the role of a babysitter, including food safety, nutrition and wellness information, first aid basics, child development, safe practices for infants and activities for young children, according to the extension office.

Participants will leave with confidence and skills acquired to care for young children. Reference materials and handouts will be provided to each participant.
