Hutchinson YMCA opens fall sports registration
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson YMCA began accepting fall sports registration Monday for recreational programs serving children from pre-kindergarten through seventh grade.
Registration for the fall season runs through Aug. 4, with practices beginning the week of Aug. 25. Games will start Sept. 6 and conclude Oct. 18.
The Greater Wichita YMCA believes that organized sports have value far beyond the score at the end of the game, according to the organization's website. The programs provide a mixture of individual skill development and team play in a fun, encouraging, non-competitive environment.
The Hutchinson YMCA offers registration discounts to members and provides financial assistance to families who qualify. Families can register online at ymcawichita.org/sports or visit any Greater Wichita YMCA branch location.
Teams practice once per week for an hour, with days and times determined by volunteer coaches. No experience is required for volunteer coaching positions, and both assistant and head coaching positions are available.
The Hutchinson facility, located at 716 E 13th Ave., is part of the Greater Wichita YMCA system that serves more than 300,000 people across Butler, Harvey, Kingman, Reno and Sedgwick counties. The facility features cardio equipment, a gymnasium, racquetball courts, indoor family and lap pools, strength equipment, a steam room and hot tub.
The Greater Wichita YMCA offers sports programs for ages 4 and up, including basketball, dodgeball, baseball, softball, dance, gymnastics and climbing. The organization provides more than 60 types of group exercise and water exercise classes included with membership.
The YMCA's mission is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that promote healthy lifestyles, strong families, and positive youth development to build healthy spirit, mind and body for all, regardless of ability to pay.
