Hutchinson seeks community input for new fairgrounds playground

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The City of Hutchinson is inviting residents to help design a new playground at Fairgrounds Park, scheduled for completion in 2026.

City officials will hold three community input sessions this week to gather ideas for the playground upgrade. The sessions are scheduled for Monday, Thursday and Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the existing playground site.

"We're getting ready to upgrade the Fairgrounds Park playground in 2026, and we want to hear directly from the experts... YOU and your kids!" the city announced on social media.

The city is seeking input on several key aspects of the playground design, including preferred play equipment, features that would make the space more welcoming, and suggestions for innovative additions such as swings, slides, climbing towers or other new elements.

"Bring the family, stop by on your lunch break, and help us dream big!" city officials said.

The initiative represents a collaborative approach to park planning, with officials emphasizing the importance of community involvement in creating recreational spaces that meet residents' needs.

The Hutchinson Community Foundation, established in 1989, serves as a key partner in philanthropic efforts throughout Reno County. The foundation has maintained a 96% recommendation rating based on 14 reviews, according to its social media profile.

Fairgrounds Park is located in central Hutchinson and serves as a popular recreational destination for families throughout the area. The playground renovation is part of ongoing efforts to enhance the city's parks and recreational facilities.

Residents unable to attend the scheduled sessions can contact the city at (620) 663-5293 or visit hutchcf.org for additional information about the project.

The project timeline calls for design completion following the community input phase, with construction expected to begin in 2025 ahead of the 2026 opening.
