Hutchinson Public Library Offers Diverse September Programming

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Public Library has scheduled a variety of educational and entertainment programs for September, ranging from movie nights to book clubs and hands-on learning opportunities.

One of the month's featured events is "Pizza and a Movie: Hidden Figures" scheduled for Monday, Sept. 8, at 5:15 p.m. The library will provide pizza for attendees watching the acclaimed film about African American mathematicians who played crucial roles in NASA's early space missions.

The library's Art Talk series continues in September with a focus on Art Deco, offered in partnership with Hutchinson Community College. The program creates "a welcoming space where creativity meets community" and explores the distinctive architectural and design style.

Regular monthly programming continues throughout September, including several book clubs for different audiences. The Salt City Readers meet on the third Wednesday of each month to explore various fiction genres, while Mystery Mavens gather on the fourth Tuesday for discussions of mystery and suspense novels.

Youth programming will resume with fall programs running from Monday, Sept. 16, through Wednesday, Nov. 20. Weekly programs include Baby Time for children birth to 18 months, Toddler Time for ages 18 months to 2 years, and Preschool Storytime on Wednesdays.

Special youth events include "Read to Rover" on the second Thursday of each month from 6 to 7 p.m., where children can practice reading to therapy dogs provided by the Hutchinson Kennel Club. Studies show this activity helps children gain confidence in their reading abilities.

Technology programming continues with 3D Printing Certification workshops throughout the month. These sessions require registration and include attendance at a Makerspace Orientation. The library's makerspace offers hands-on learning opportunities for community members interested in digital fabrication.

The Tech-Share Meetup provides assistance for those with questions about phones, tablets, laptops or other technology devices. Participants can bring their gadgets for troubleshooting help or to learn about new applications.

Family programming includes "LEGOS at the Library" on the first Saturday of each month from 10:30 a.m. to noon, where children and families can explore creative building while socializing with other LEGO enthusiasts.

Creative programming features the Creative Writing Corner, described as "a space for anyone to sit down and work on their own stories," whether participants want to brainstorm ideas with others or need help with editing projects.

The Hutchinson Public Library, located at 901 N. Main St., serves as a community hub for Reno County residents. The library operates Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and is closed Sundays.

Registration is required for some programs, and interested participants can sign up through the library's website at hutchpl.org or by calling (620) 663-5441. Many events are offered free of charge as part of the library's mission to inspire learning and strengthen the community.
