Hutchinson Public Library Offers Diverse Programming Through September

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Public Library will host numerous educational and entertainment programs from August through September, featuring everything from author visits to technology workshops and book clubs for all ages.

Author Visit Highlights Programming

The library will host a virtual meet-and-greet with New York Times bestselling author Casey McQuiston on Wednesday, Aug. 20, at 6 p.m. CT via digital live-stream. McQuiston, author of "Red, White, and Royal Blue," will discuss her latest romantic comedy, "The Pairing," about two bisexual exes who accidentally book the same European food and wine tour.

Regular Programming Continues

Several recurring programs will continue through September at the library, located at 901 N. Main St.

The Salt City Readers book discussion group meets every third Wednesday of each month, exploring various fiction genres. Mystery Mavens, a mystery book club, gathers on the fourth Tuesday of every month at 6 p.m. in Conference Room #2.

Technology enthusiasts can attend multiple programs, including 3D Printing Certification workshops that require both registration and completion of a Makerspace Orientation. Tech-Share Meetups are scheduled for the fourth Saturday of each month from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. through May 2026, providing assistance with phones, tablets, laptops and other technology.

Family and Youth Activities

The library's tabletop role-playing game club meets on second Saturdays and following Mondays from 1:30 to 4 p.m. for students in grades 2-6, with refreshments provided and registration required.

Children can participate in "Read to Rover," a program where young readers gain confidence by reading to therapy dogs in partnership with the Hutchinson Kennel Club. LEGO enthusiasts of all ages can explore creativity and imagination at "LEGOS® at the Library" sessions.

The Creative Writing Corner provides space for writers to work on stories, brainstorm ideas with other patrons or receive editing assistance.

September Movie Night

The library will host "Pizza and a Movie: Hidden Figures" on Monday, Sept. 8, at 5:15 p.m., with 28 spots available for registration.

Art and Community Programs

In partnership with Hutchinson Community College, the library will present "Art Talk – Art Deco," exploring the decorative art style. Registration is available for the free program.

A community mural project titled "You" at the Library continues through the summer, inviting patrons to contribute to a temporary collaborative artwork.

Additional Services

The library recently became a FamilySearch Affiliate Library, expanding genealogy resources for community members interested in family history research. The facility also features the Bru Crue Coffee Bar, a Friendshop Book Store with used books for sale, and various technology services including free Wi-Fi and computer access.

The library completed parking lot repairs Aug. 4-6, with the north parking lot and alleyway being repaved.
