Sign up freeHUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Police Department and community organizers will host the seventh annual Bridgebuilders BBQ on Thursday, July 30, giving residents and law enforcement a relaxed setting to connect over food and summer activities.
The free event begins at 5:30 p.m. at the Homebuilder's shelter in Carey Park, located across the street from the Salt City Splash Aquatic Center. Along with a provided meal, the gathering will include water activities, games, face painting and a bounce house for children and families.
The initiative aims to strengthen trust and build positive relationships between youth, neighborhoods and local police officers. The city and police department organized the event in partnership with several local organizations, including the NAACP Youth and College Division, Hutch in Harmony and Wisdom in Motion.
Jessica Woodyard, public communications manager for the city of Hutchinson, highlighted the importance of the gathering for building community ties. "It's an opportunity for young people and families and the police officers to come together outside of those emergency situations to get to know one another and build those positive relationships in a more relaxed environment," Woodyard said.
