Hutchinson Police Issue 83 Speeding Citations During Federal Safety Campaign

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Hutchinson police issued 83 speeding citations and made one arrest during a federal speed enforcement campaign that concluded recently.

The department participated in the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's "Speeding Slows You Down" initiative, deploying 11 officers for 66.5 hours of additional enforcement. Police made 199 total contacts with drivers, including 66 speed warnings and approximately 41 other traffic violations.

"We are calling on everyone to show regard for all road users' lives and safety, including their own, by following the speed limits everywhere and all the time," Traffic Officer Gilmore said. "Posted speed limits are the law."

The high-visibility enforcement campaign was part of a U.S. Department of Transportation effort to reduce speeding and improve driving behavior nationwide.
