Hutchinson Monarchs complete suspended game

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Monarchs completed a rain-delayed victory Monday night, finishing off a 10-4 win over the Wichita Wildcats in a game suspended June 23 due to lightning at Hobart-Detter Field.
The victory improved the Monarchs' record to 20-5 as they enter the final 10 days of the Jayhawk Collegiate League regular season with NBC World Series seeding implications on the line.
Wichita opened the scoring in the first inning when Landon Haines drove in Josh Donna with a double, but Hutchinson responded immediately in the bottom half. Jackson Legg's RBI single brought home two runs, followed by Keegan Demmer's sacrifice fly that gave the Monarchs a 3-1 advantage. Dylan Bell added another run with a groundout, extending the lead to 4-1 after one inning.
The Monarchs built on their momentum in the second inning. Jeter Worthley drove in a run with a groundout before Joey Senstock launched a solo home run to left field, pushing the lead to 6-1.
The Wildcats mounted a comeback attempt, scoring once in the third on Jackson Ellison's fielder's choice and adding two runs in the seventh, including one on a wild pitch. However, Hutchinson answered with timely hitting throughout the contest.
Jacob Gutierrez extended the Monarchs' lead with a run-scoring double in the fifth inning. The team added three insurance runs in the eighth, with Jarrett Herrmann contributing a sacrifice fly and a fielder's choice accounting for two additional runs to seal the 10-4 victory.
Bryant Siemens provided crucial relief pitching for Hutchinson, recording a key strikeout in the seventh inning to limit Wichita's scoring threat.
The Monarchs will host the Haysville Aviators Tuesday night at Hobart-Detter Field with first pitch scheduled for 7 p.m. The game will be available for viewing on hutchpost.com and monarchslive.tv.
