Hutchinson Ministry to host free dinner for mothers of special needs children

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Mary Magdalene House will host a free dinner July 22 for mothers of children with special needs, offering support and community for families navigating mental, learning and physical challenges.

The event begins at 6:30 p.m. at the ministry's facility at 7201 E. Fourth Ave. Registration is required through the organization's website at marymagdalenehouse.com/events, though there is no cost to attend.

The gathering aims to create connections among mothers who understand the unique journey of raising children with special needs, according to the organization's social media announcement. The ministry emphasizes celebrating triumphs while providing support through difficult times.

The Mary Magdalene House operates as a non-clinical counseling center specializing in pastoral counseling for families dealing with various challenges including mental illness, addiction, adoption issues and marital problems. The organization offers classes and counseling specifically focused on appropriate responses to mental illness, adoption, learning disabilities and grief.

Founded with the mission of helping people find their identity in Christ, the ministry operates from a multi-functional building on 2.5 acres in east Hutchinson. The organization describes its approach as creating a family-like atmosphere rather than traditional counseling, often incorporating activities around a communal kitchen and family table.

The ministry takes its name from Mary Magdalene, whom they describe as someone who was "considered the least" but became "first to see the divinity of Jesus resurrected." This philosophy extends to their work with families who may feel marginalized in their communities.

In addition to individual and family counseling, The Mary Magdalene House holds regular Sunday morning services, Bible studies and small conferences with guest speakers. The organization emphasizes that their property was once affected by drug abuse and trafficking but has been transformed into what they call "a holy place for people to see and feel the power of the Lord Jesus Christ."

Questions about the July 22 event can be directed to info@marymagdalenehouse.com or 620-500-0014.
