Hutchinson man arrested on attempted capital murder charge after police say he shot at officer

A Hutchinson Police Department media release says that at approximately 8:48 p.m., Jesse Taylor, of Hutchinson, approached an officer who was inside a stationary patrol vehicle in the parking lot at 1403 E. 11th Ave., had visible blood on him, told the officer he had a firearm and then displayed it. When the officer gave him commands, Taylor ran toward the Porter Commons Apartments at 1415 Katie Drive with the firearm, and the officer pursued him on foot as a second officer arrived.
According to the release, the second officer located Taylor in the apartment complex parking lot and began giving verbal commands, at which point Taylor fired a handgun at that officer, striking an unoccupied vehicle nearby. The officer moved to cover and Taylor retreated. Taylor was located shortly afterward, and officers found a firearm and a knife in the immediate vicinity where he was taken into custody.
According to the release, officers then executed a search warrant at Taylor's residence and located a deceased canine inside that had sustained lacerations and apparent gunshot wounds. Taylor was arrested on charges of attempted capital murder of a law enforcement officer, two counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, felony interference, cruelty to animals; malicious killing, criminal damage and unlawful discharge of a firearm.
