Hutchinson Hospital Receives D in National Safety Ratings

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Hutchinson Regional Medical Center received a "D" grade in The Leapfrog Group's fall 2025 hospital safety report, placing it among the lowest-rated hospitals in Kansas for patient safety. The independent nonprofit organization evaluated 30 Kansas hospitals based on their performance in preventing medical errors, accidents and infections, awarding letter grades from A to F. Only two other Kansas facilities — Kansas Medical Center in Andover and Southwest Medical Center in Liberal — also received D grades. No Kansas hospitals received failing marks. Seven hospitals across the state earned top "A" grades, while 10 received B grades and 10 got C grades. The Leapfrog Group, which has graded hospitals nationwide since 2013, bases its assessments on measures designed to evaluate how well hospitals protect patients from preventable harm, though some industry observers have questioned the organization's methodology.
