Firefighters will collect donations at the Hutchinson Walmart and the Dillons stores on Fifth and 30th avenues. Collection hours at all three locations are 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, July 25 and 26.
All donated classroom essentials — including backpacks, notebooks and writing utensils — will go directly to 34 public, private and alternative schools across Reno County. The department said all donations will stay in Reno County, easing the financial burden on local families while helping students and educators start the school year prepared.
