Hutchinson Fire Department responds to early morning house fire

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Firefighters responded to an early morning house fire Friday in the 400 block of East Avenue C, quickly extinguishing flames that were primarily on the exterior of the structure.

The Hutchinson Fire Department received the call at 2:26 a.m. July 11, according to a press release from Battalion Chief Chad Allen. First-arriving units reported light smoke coming from the west side of the house and possibly the attic area.

Residents were able to exit the home safely without injury before firefighters arrived, Allen said.

Fire crews discovered the blaze was mainly on the building's exterior and quickly brought it under control. Teams remained at the scene to ventilate the structure, conduct overhaul operations and assist with the investigation.

The cause of the fire remains undetermined, according to the release.

The fire department thanked Hutchinson/Reno County Emergency Communications, Hutchinson Police Department, Reno County Emergency Medical Services, Kansas Gas, Evergy and the American Red Cross for their assistance during the incident.
