Hutchinson Fire Department extinguishes attic fire at West 7th Street residence

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Fire Department responded to an attic fire Sunday, Jan. 25, at a residence in the 100 block of West 7th Street, according to a press release from Division Chief of Operations Jeremy Unruh.

Crews arrived at the scene to find a small fire burning in the attic of a two-story, balloon frame home. Firefighters were able to access the attic and extinguish the flames without complications, causing minimal damage to the residence.

The home was occupied when the fire started, and the occupants called 911 to report the incident. They were able to safely exit the structure before crews arrived. No injuries were reported.

Fire officials said damage was confined to the attic and ceiling areas. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Hutchinson Fire Department thanked several agencies for their assistance, including Reno County EMS, Reno County Emergency Communications, Evergy, Kansas Gas and the Hutchinson Police Department.
