Hutchinson engineer earns national recognition from American Society of Civil Engineers

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A City of Hutchinson engineer whose contributions have quietly shaped the community's infrastructure has been named a recipient of the Outstanding Young Member Award from the American Society of Civil Engineers.

Sangeeta Bhattacharjee, a member of the city's engineering staff, received the honor in recognition of her professional excellence and her commitment to public service. The award, presented by one of the nation's oldest and most prestigious engineering organizations, highlights young professionals who demonstrate outstanding technical skill and dedication to their communities.

City officials praised Bhattacharjee for her role in advancing key municipal projects, noting that her work — though often conducted outside the public eye — has had a tangible impact across Hutchinson.

"Some of the best work in local government often happens behind the scenes through thoughtful planning from people who care deeply about serving their community," city officials said in a statement. "Sangeeta represents what public service is all about."

Bhattacharjee's selection reflects both her technical acumen and the broader values that define the city's engineering team, known internally as "Team Hutch."

The American Society of Civil Engineers, founded in 1852, represents more than 150,000 members globally and advocates for the civil engineering profession through education, advocacy and public service initiatives.
