Hutchinson Community Foundation awards scholarships, hosts nonprofit training

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Community Foundation awarded $18,000 in scholarships to two Hutchinson High School students and will host a data storytelling workshop for nonprofit leaders next week.

Noah Sidebottom and KeiRe Martinez each received $9,000 from the HHS Class of 1968 Scholarship fund, the foundation announced Friday. Both students are members of the Class of 2025.

The foundation will host "Storytelling with Data: Masterclass for Local Nonprofit Leaders" from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the foundation's offices at 1 N Main St., Suite 501. The two-hour workshop is part of the foundation's Learning Community Series and Nonprofit Strength Initiative.

Lori Bower, president of BowerComm, will lead the session designed to help nonprofit leaders transform data into compelling narratives that inspire action. The workshop aims to move participants beyond dry statistics to create impactful reports, grant applications and community presentations.

Participants will learn to identify key insights and trends, connect data to emotional narratives, create effective visualizations and tailor storytelling approaches for different audiences including donors, board members and community partners.

Bower launched BowerComm in 2010 after working for agencies in Chicago for seven years. Her company now works with more than 50 clients across the United States and employs 15 people. She returned to Kansas to live on her family farm in central Kansas.

The workshop will provide a framework for analyzing and presenting data meaningfully, offer tips for integrating visuals into reports and presentations, and share real-world examples of successful data storytelling to motivate donors and stakeholders.

Lunch will be served during the event. Advanced registration is required by July 7, and space is limited to 30 participants per workshop. The foundation encourages two people from each organization to attend for shared learning.

Registration is available through the foundation's website at hutchcf.org. The event is public and open to anyone on or off Facebook.

The Learning Community Series provides professional development opportunities through peer learning and workshops with regional leaders in the nonprofit field, according to the foundation.
