Hutchinson City Council to weigh exceeding revenue neutral rate, address abandoned homes
The July 7 meeting will also include discussions on selling the former IT building and setting public hearings for special benefit districts.
Hutchinson property owners could see changes to their tax bills as the City Council prepares to consider a resolution of intent to exceed the revenue neutral rate at its July 7 meeting.
Kansas law requires municipalities to formally notify taxpayers and hold public hearings if they plan to collect more property tax revenue than the previous year. Before the regular 5:30 p.m. meeting at City Hall, the council will hold a budget study session at 4 p.m.
Council members will also vote on setting public hearing dates for five abandoned structures, potentially paving the way for demolition or rehabilitation of the blighted properties. The targeted homes are located at 102 W. Ninth Ave., 300 E. Ave. E, 315 1/2 N. Cleveland St., 615 E. Ave. A, and 1109 N. Elm St.
Other items on the agenda include the potential sale or disposition of the city's former Information Technologies building at 220 S. Poplar St. and an ordinance authorizing general obligation bonds to fund HVAC improvements at the Shadduck building. The council is also scheduled to receive an update on the Woodie Seat project and set public hearings for proposed special assessments in the Plum Creek and Spyglass Hills districts.
