Hutchinson CC's Box named finalist for Gary Player International Golf Award; Hutchinson CC's Maher wins National Gold Glove Award for Defensive Excellence

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Hutchinson Community College golfer Charlie Box has been selected as a finalist for the 2025 Gary Player International Golfer of the Year Award, recognizing his standout season that culminated with an NJCAA individual national championship.
The Golf Coaches Association of America and FlightScope present the annual award to outstanding international student-athletes competing in college golf across all divisions, including NCAA Divisions I, II, III, NAIA and NJCAA.
Box, a sophomore from Leicester, England, captured the NJCAA Individual national championship on May 16 at Sand Creek Station, becoming only the second Blue Dragon golfer in program history to win the national title.
Championship Performance
The Leicester native shot a 1-over-par 73 in the final round to finish at 5-under 283, securing his fourth tournament victory of the season and fifth of his Blue Dragon career.
Box joins Ben Partridge as the only Hutchinson golfers to claim the NJCAA Individual championship. Partridge won the title in 2021 in Lubbock, Texas, after a four-hole playoff with teammate Harry Crockett.
Elite Recognition
The championship capped an exceptional season for Box, who became the second Blue Dragon golfer to earn back-to-back NJCAA first-team All-America honors. Box also earned PING All-America recognition, making him the eighth Blue Dragon to receive both NJCAA and PING All-America honors in the same season.
His consistent excellence throughout the season established him among the top junior college golfers nationally and earned him recognition as one of the premier international players in collegiate golf.
Award Competition
Box faces strong competition for the Gary Player Award from fellow NJCAA Division I finalists Gabriele Bravin of Heartland College, Adam Bresnu of Odessa, Stanley Campbell of Mississippi Gulf Coast, Jorge Parada of South Mountain and Scott Spark of Midland.
The Gary Player Award recognizes both athletic achievement and the contributions international students make to American collegiate golf programs.
Hutchinson Community College's golf program has established itself as a national powerhouse, with Box's championship adding to the Blue Dragons' rich golf tradition and international recruiting success.

Hutchinson Community College first baseman Quinn Maher has been named to the American Baseball Coaches Association NJCAA Division I Gold Glove team, capping a flawless defensive season in which he committed zero errors.
The American Baseball Coaches Association released its 2025 NJCAA Division I Gold Glove team Wednesday, recognizing the nation's top defensive players. Maher, a sophomore from Colorado Springs, Colorado, was one of three Jayhawk Conference players selected to the prestigious team.
Perfect Season
Maher posted a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage this season, starting 60 games at first base without committing an error in 418 total defensive chances. His errorless performance makes him just the sixth Blue Dragon player in program history to achieve a perfect fielding percentage with more than 150 defensive chances.
The Colorado Springs native's 418 defensive chances ranked seventh in Blue Dragon single-season history, while his 412 putouts are fourth-most in program history and third-most by a Hutchinson first baseman.
Program History
Maher becomes the fifth Blue Dragon to earn a national Gold Glove award, joining Ben McLaughlin (2022), Shane Cooper (2017), Michael Helman (2016) and Bennett Oliver (2013) as ABCA Gold Glove winners.
Over his two-year career with the Blue Dragons, Maher committed only three errors in 467 total defensive chances, establishing a new program record with a .994 career fielding percentage. His mark breaks the previous record of .993 set by Scott Wolverton in 2017-18.
Team Success
Maher's stellar defense helped the 2025 Blue Dragons lead the Jayhawk West Conference with a .972 team fielding percentage. The team finished with a 40-21 record, placing third in the Jayhawk West.
Hutchinson advanced to the Plains District Tournament after sweeping Allen in two games in the opening-round series at Hobart-Detter Field. The Blue Dragons went 1-2 in the Plains District Tournament in Salina.
Offensive Contributions
While recognized for his defense, Maher also contributed offensively, hitting .299 for the season with 58 hits in 194 at-bats. He recorded 14 doubles, eight home runs, 41 RBIs and scored 59 runs.
Previously this season, Maher earned All-Jayhawk West honorable mention and All-Region 6 Gold Club recognition.
Conference Recognition
Maher was joined on the national Gold Glove team by fellow Jayhawk Conference players Marcus Dierks, an outfielder, and Fort Scott pitcher Reese Kortum, highlighting the defensive excellence across the conference.
The Gold Glove recognition adds to Hutchinson Community College's growing reputation for developing elite defensive players and maintaining one of the top junior college baseball programs in the nation.
