Hutchinson Art Center postpones Autumn Consignment Auction, showcases local artist
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Art Center has postponed its 2025 Autumn Consignment Art Auction that was scheduled for Oct. 4 due to extenuating circumstances.
The art center announced it is working to set a new date for the auction and will make an announcement once a decision is made. Despite the postponement, organizers are still accepting artwork consignments for the future auction.

The center, located at 405 N. Washington St., is currently showcasing the work of local artist Melissa Carter in collaboration with the Hutchinson Public Library. The free exhibit runs from June 2 through Aug. 30 on the second floor in Meeting Room 1.
Carter's exhibition features portrait work created with acrylic and watercolor paints. According to the art center's announcement, Carter has used various mediums throughout her life, with her current focus on acrylic and watercolor materials to create compelling portraits.
The art center noted that Carter's paintings are influenced by her interest in people as artistic subjects and her ability to find beauty in different faces around the world. The portraits are described as aesthetically beautiful works that reveal the subject's personality and encourage viewers to learn more about the person depicted.
All profits from Carter's artwork sales will be donated to displaced persons and appropriate charities, according to the announcement.
The Hutchinson Art Center has also expanded its social media presence, now maintaining accounts on TikTok, Instagram and Facebook to provide updates, event announcements and creative content. The center encourages community members to follow, like and share to support local art and the community.
