Hutchinson Animal Shelter offers reduced adoption fees through July 17

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Animal Shelter is offering reduced adoption fees through July 17 as part of its "Red, White, & Woof" promotion, aimed at finding homes for dogs and cats during the busy summer season.

The shelter, located at 1501 S Severance, operates Tuesday through Sunday from 12:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Potential adopters must call (620) 694-1924 to schedule appointments to meet available animals.\

The shelter was built in 2007 for the City of Hutchinson with the goal of helping reduce pet overpopulation in Reno County and placing animals in permanent homes. Adoption fees include spay or neuter surgery, all vaccinations, microchip with national registration, heartworm testing for dogs and testing for feline leukemia and FIV for cats.

The shelter requires prospective adopters to complete an application, which can be submitted online through the shelter's website at hutchinsonanimalservices.com. Most adoptions are completed the same day, though occasionally reference checks may delay the process.

The Hutchinson Animal Shelter serves both as an adoption center and animal control facility for the city. The shelter operates a Barn Cat Program designed to find homes at barns, warehouses, farms and other safe locations for cats that are not suitable as household companions but make excellent working cats.

Adopters work with adoption counselors to find the right pet match during their appointment. Animals that are not ready to leave immediately remain at the shelter until spay or neuter surgery is completed.
