HutchCC student recognized as distinguished dragon

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Hutchinson Community College has named Brynn Hawbaker of Assaria as its Distinguished Dragon for 2025, recognizing her outstanding academic performance and campus involvement.

Hawbaker, who studied Elementary Education at HutchCC, maintained a high grade point average while actively participating in campus activities. College officials praised her dedication to her studies and welcoming attitude toward fellow students.

"Brynn has been a dedicated student maintaining a very high GPA," her nominator wrote. "She is involved in campus activities, and she is very welcoming to everyone and always has a very cheerful attitude."

During her time at the college, Hawbaker served as a Student Ambassador and performed with the Concert Choir. She received the Lucille Rock Memorial Scholarship and earned repeated recognition on both the President's and Vice President's Honor Roll.

The Leadership Scholar expressed gratitude for her experience at the two-year community college, particularly remembering pickle ball nights with friends at HutchCC's Central Park and time spent with fellow ambassadors.

Hawbaker thanked several college staff members for their support, including Cindy Keast and Dana Sneed from Endowment, as well as Lynnette Hilty, Bree Edwards, Tanner Sneed, Sara Goertz and Diego Esparza. She also recognized her advisor Teri Eckhoff for guidance during her studies.

The Distinguished Dragon recognition is part of HutchCC's summer series highlighting student excellence. The college, located at 1300 N. Plum St., serves students throughout south-central Kansas.
