HutchCC Football signee earns National Scholar-Athlete Honor

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A Hutchinson Community College football signee has been recognized as one of the nation's top high school scholar-athletes.

Bravin Powell-Brown of Gardner-Edgerton High School was named to the 2025 National Football Foundation Team of Distinction, the organization announced Wednesday.

Powell-Brown was selected from a national pool of 3,500 scholar-athletes as one of 82 honorees recognized for academic excellence, athletic achievements and community leadership.

The dual-sport standout helped Gardner-Edgerton win two football state championships while earning Class 6A Offensive Player of the Year honors. He received first-team all-state recognition at quarterback and served as team captain for two years.

Powell-Brown also excelled in track and field, capturing the 6A state title in the 110-meter high hurdles this spring.

His academic performance matched his athletic success. Powell-Brown compiled a 4.18 GPA and earned membership in the National Honor Society.

"Each year, the NFF Team of Distinction represents the very best of what high school football has to offer, young men who lead with character, perform with excellence, and give back to their communities," said NFF Chairman Archie Manning.

The Team of Distinction program highlights top graduating high school football players nationwide based on academic performance, athletic success and community service. Each NFF chapter is limited to one honoree annually.

Powell-Brown was chosen as the top scholar-athlete from his regional chapter.

"These 82 honorees exemplify the scholar-athlete ideal," Manning said.

The program recognizes students who demonstrate the leadership qualities and commitment to excellence that the National Football Foundation promotes at all levels of the sport.

Powell-Brown will join the Blue Dragons football program this fall as Hutchinson Community College continues building its roster with high-character student-athletes.

The recognition places Powell-Brown among an elite group of graduating seniors who have distinguished themselves both in the classroom and on the field while contributing to their communities.
