City to unveil new concepts for Gibbs Park and Stony Run area

HURON, S.D. - The Parks and Recreation Department will hold a public meeting on Nov. 19 to reveal new development concepts for Gibbs Park and the Stony Run area. Parks and Recreation Director Chad Schroder said landscape architecture students from South Dakota State University will present designs they created for the sites. The informational meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in Blackburn Hall at the Campus Center, and public input is encouraged.


Library establishes new teen/tween position, creates vacancy

HURON, S.D. - The city library will create a new position focused on young adult services after the commission approved the reclassification of a library assistant to a new Teen/Tween Library position, effective Dec. 1, 2025. As a result, the commission also approved advertising and posting the now-vacant Library Assistant position in Circulation and Outreach Services.


Solid waste department announces holiday collection changes

HURON, S.D. - Residents should be aware of upcoming changes to garbage, recycling and yard waste collection due to the Thanksgiving holiday. Commissioner Rhonda Kludt announced the Rubble Site will be closed for Thanksgiving, the department will be closed Nov. 27-29, with both Thursday and Friday routes being collected on Wednesday, Nov. 26.


Final yard waste collection week scheduled for Nov. 17-21

HURON, S.D. - The Solid Waste Department announced that the final week for the 2025 curbside yard waste collection will be Nov. 17-21. Green cans will be emptied on residents’ regular trash days. Officials advise residents to loosen any yard waste compacted at the bottom of containers and to store green cans in a garage or shed for the winter. The free drop-off site east of the James River Bridge on Third Street Southeast remains open for public use.


Commission approves over $597,000 in county expenditures

BEADLE COUNTY, S.D. - The Beadle County Commission authorized more than $597,000 in county expenditures during its regular meeting Tuesday. The board unanimously approved total payroll expenses of $387,135.69 and an additional $209,969.72 in claims for departmental operations, services and supplies. The funds cover the county’s obligations for the preceding pay period.
