City continues push for vacation rental zoning compliance
HURON, S.D. - Following the approval of a new vacation rental permit Tuesday, which included discussions surrounding a property at 1288 Dakota Ave. S., city officials emphasized an ongoing effort to bring all local short-term rental operators into compliance with the city's zoning code. This aligns with recent commission action on an ordinance to explicitly allow vacation rental homes in B2 and B3 districts. Once operators obtain the required state license and complete an initial inspection, their properties are entered into the city's standard rental compliance program to ensure community standards are met.
Spring yard waste pickup schedule announced
HURON, S.D. - Citywide yard waste collection will begin Wednesday, April 1, with the first three weeks of green container pickups occurring on Wednesdays for all residents. Starting the week of April 20, the Huron Solid Waste Department will return to collecting green containers on residents' regularly scheduled garbage days.
Huron City Commission honors state champion boys basketball team
HURON, S.D. - The Huron City Commission officially recognized the Huron Tigers boys basketball team Tuesday for winning the South Dakota Class AA state championship following their 59-47 victory over Sioux Falls Lincoln. The team — led by head coach Tim Buddenhagen and featuring standout performances from senior guard Blake Ellwein, Myles Ellwein, Chase Schuchhardt, and Carter Porisch — was honored for their outstanding representation of Huron High School and the community. The state champions received high praise during the meeting for their exemplary sportsmanship both on and off the court.
