Huron City Commission approves $45 million 2027 municipal budget

HURON, S.D. — The Huron City Commission unanimously approved the second and final reading of the 2027 municipal appropriations ordinance during its Sept. 28 meeting. The approved budget totals $45,045,762, marking a $4 million increase from the previous year. The financial plan includes a 2.3% contingency fund, and Finance Director Paullyn Carey noted that the final tax levy will be submitted to Beadle County by Oct. 1.


Huron Solid Waste Department announces holiday schedule adjustments

HURON, S.D. — The Huron Solid Waste Department announced garbage collection route changes in observance of the upcoming Columbus Day and Native American Day holiday on Monday, Oct. 12. The Huron Rubble Site will be closed for the holiday, and Monday's regular garbage, recycling and grass collections will be delayed until Wednesday, Oct. 14. Residents are reminded to place their containers out the night before, as collection routes will not be rerouted.


Huron City Commission approves Parade of Lights for late November

HURON, S.D. — The Huron Chamber and Visitors Bureau received official approval to host the city's annual Parade of Lights this holiday season. The Huron City Commission unanimously approved the request for the Nov. 27 event as part of Monday's consent agenda.
