Sign up freeHeavy rainfall prompted a flash flood warning in Hays on Thursday morning, inundating low-lying streets, dips, and intersections with standing water.
City officials urged motorists to slow down to prevent hydroplaning and warned drivers never to bypass barricades or enter flooded roads, noting that just 12 inches of moving water can sweep a car away.
With Hays Public Works and police crews actively monitoring the localized flooding, residents were advised to keep children and pets away from dangerous currents in drainage ditches. They were also advised to report road obstructions by calling 785-628-7350.
