HCC students Excel at SkillsUSA competition

Students at Hutchinson Community College took home several top honors at the SkillsUSA Kansas State Championships held in April in Hutchinson.

A partnership of students, teachers and industry working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce. SkillsUSA helps each student excel.

In all, HCC had four first-place finishers who will advance to the National SkillsUSA Championships in June in Atlanta.

Results:

Mechatronics

Edgar Morales (Hutchinson) and Josh Burdett (Hutchinson) – 1st place

Kevin Rodriguez (Hutchinson) and Kohen Starnes (Hutchinson) – 2nd place

(In the nationals Starnes will compete in place of Burdett, who is unable to attend.)

Welding Sculpture

Zion Hayes (Hutchinson) – 1st place

Ella Mackey (Florence) – 2nd place

Cosmetology 

Ellie Hardgrave (McPherson) – 1st place

Alex Romero (McPherson) – 2nd place

Dani Hacking (Haysville) – 3rd place

Technical Drafting

Ryan Goss (Hutchinson) – 2nd place

Industrial Motor Controls

Nick Hoffman (Hutchinson) – 2nd place

Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration

Dalton Johnson (Hutchinson) – 2nd place

Industrial Motor Controls.

Lucas Garcia (Abbyville) – 3rd place
