Hays residents urged to close toilet lids during two-month sewer cleaning

HAYS, Kan. — Residents in northeastern Hays may hear rumbling pipes and see water backing up into their sinks, tubs and toilets over the next two months as a city-contracted sewer line cleaning project begins Friday.

The Hays Water Resources Department is advising affected households to keep toilet lids closed to protect against splashing caused by air pressure changes in the lines. Crews will leave door hanger notices before starting work in specific neighborhoods. Residents with questions can contact the onsite supervisor at 218-770-8286.
