Haskell Indian Nations University to host 'Powwow on the Pitch' for World Cup fans
The Wednesday event will share Native American traditions with global visitors during the region's 'Summer of Soccer'
LAWRENCE, Kan. — Haskell Indian Nations University is inviting the local community and international soccer fans to a special "Powwow on the Pitch" on Wednesday June 24 from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Haskell Powwow Grounds, 2535 W. Perimeter Road. The free event will feature traditional dancing, singing and Indigenous foods as the region prepares to welcome an estimated 600,000 visitors for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The cultural celebration is part of the university's "Summer of Soccer" series, which aims to share Native American history and culture with global tourists expected in the area for six matches in nearby Kansas City and the Algerian national team's tournament base camp in Lawrence.
