Commission selects advisor for courthouse remodel bond

HARVEY COUNTY, Kan. — The Harvey County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved Columbia Capital Management as the county's municipal advisor to assist with debt financing for an upcoming courthouse remodel. The firm will charge a $15,000 base fee plus 90 cents per $1,000 of the bond issued. County staff interviewed three candidates before recommending Columbia Capital Management, noting the firm's strong interest in maintaining an ongoing relationship with the county for future financial advisory needs.


County approves nearly $40,000 for 911 dispatch upgrades

HARVEY COUNTY, Kan. — Harvey County 911 dispatchers will receive new radio computers, servers and USB hubs following the commission's approval of a $39,925.60 purchase from First Wireless, a communications equipment provider. Harvey County Communications Director Don Gruver requested the upgrades, noting the current equipment is six years old and has started to cause technical issues. The cost of the new Motorola equipment will be split evenly between the county's general fund and the 911 fund.


County drug court program celebrates newest graduates

HARVEY COUNTY, Kan. — The Harvey County Drug Court celebrated its 29th and 30th graduates this week. The milestone was highlighted during Tuesday's county commission meeting, with the board recognizing the ongoing success of the county's diversion and rehabilitation program. The specialty court provides strict judicial oversight and intensive supervision for probationers who have been assessed as high-risk for recidivism due to substance abuse issues. Rather than relying on standard incarceration, the program aims to address the root causes of addiction by guiding participants through rigorous, structured treatment and recovery support.


Commissioners schedule work session, eye state conference

HARVEY COUNTY, Kan. — The Harvey County Commission scheduled a special work session to be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday in the old commission room on the first floor of the Harvey County Courthouse. Additionally, commissioners reviewed upcoming dates for the Kansas County Commissioners Association conference, which will be held April 22–24, and urged board members to register soon.
