City council grapples with catastrophic flood aftermath, mourns three fatalities
GLOBE, Ariz. – The Globe City Council dedicated its entire meeting Tuesday to the response and recovery following the catastrophic flood of Sept. 26, 2025. Officials mourned the three lives lost in Globe and praised the tireless efforts of city staff, first responders and an estimated 3,000 volunteers who aided in cleanup efforts. Council members and city staff described the event as a “city changing event,” emphasizing that the immediate focus is on stabilizing infrastructure and supporting residents before returning to normal city operations.
Widespread infrastructure damage cripples water, sewer systems
GLOBE, Ariz. – The city’s public works infrastructure sustained critical damage, Public Works Director John Angulo reported Tuesday. Multiple water main breaks, including damage affecting transmission lines from the Cutter well fields, led to widespread outages and service disruptions. The city’s wastewater system was inundated with debris, causing backups and requiring emergency contractors. While bridges downtown were overtopped by floodwaters, inspections and repairs are ongoing; no permanent bridge closure has been announced as of this week.
Fifteen commercial buildings deemed unsafe; more closures possible
GLOBE, Ariz. – Structural assessments have resulted in 15 commercial buildings in the downtown corridor being “red-tagged” as unsafe for entry, Community Development Director Tony Manfredi told the council. In total, inspectors have assessed dozens of commercial buildings and more than 150 residential properties. Manfredi warned that conditions remain dynamic as buildings dry and settle; additional fencing and sidewalk closures on Broad Street may be necessary. (Note: The City has confirmed rapid placarding/assessments; the exact red-tag count will continue to change.)
Broad Street remains restricted amid safety concerns
GLOBE, Ariz. – While a city-wide curfew has been lifted, North Broad Street remained closed to through traffic through Sunday, Oct. 12, with temporary curfews and limited business access implemented during subsequent weather threats. Police Chief Dale Walters said restrictions are necessary both for debris cleanup and due to hazards from structurally compromised buildings; daytime access to operating businesses has been routed where safe.
State incident management team deployed to Globe
GLOBE, Ariz. – The scale of the disaster prompted a statewide response, with the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management’s Incident Management Team and other mutual-aid resources assisting city operations. Emergency management personnel, including Emergency Management Specialist Madison Rybicki from Glendale, are supporting Globe’s Emergency Operations Center with logistics, finance and planning to ensure proper documentation for federal reimbursement.
Resolution Copper donates $1 million to flood relief efforts
GLOBE, Ariz. – In a major boost to community recovery, Resolution Copper announced a $1 million donation to the United Fund of Globe-Miami to support residents and businesses impacted by the recent flooding. Resolution Copper General Manager Vicky Peacey said the funds will assist both residential and business recovery, with a portion dedicated to long-term flood-mitigation planning. The donation adds to a growing regional relief effort supported by partners including the City of Globe and Freeport-McMoRan.
Financial aid programs mobilized for residents and businesses
GLOBE, Ariz. – Multiple avenues for financial assistance are now available. The U.S. Small Business Administration has opened a Disaster Loan Outreach Center at the Globe-Miami Chamber of Commerce (1360 N. Broad St.), staffed Monday–Friday, 9 a.m.–4 p.m., to assist with low-interest disaster loans (up to $500,000 for homeowners and $2 million for businesses). The United Fund of Globe-Miami is launching two grant programs with partners: The Salvation Army will coordinate residential relief applications, and Local First Arizona will coordinate a business-relief grant program.
City pauses major fall events to focus on recovery
GLOBE, Ariz. – Citing exhausted staff and ongoing public-safety risks, the city said major special events are paused pending safety assessments and staffing capacity. City Manager Paul Jepson said resources remain focused on flood response, and that returning to large public gatherings will depend on downtown structural conditions. Organizers noted that event status (including the Apache Jii Festival and the downtown Halloween block party) is under review; residents should check official updates.
