GLOBE, Ariz. — A traffic counting initiative will soon begin on Broad Street as part of a demonstration project aimed at reducing vehicle speeds through downtown Globe. The city council authorized an $8,990 contract with a traffic engineering consultant to conduct two seven-day traffic studies using pneumatic road tubes. The data will capture baseline vehicle counts and speeds before the city implements temporary traffic-calming measures in October. A follow-up study will be conducted midway through the demonstration to determine if the narrowed roadway design successfully slows traffic as intended under the federal Safe Streets and Roads for All grant program.
