While the total modifications amounted to $116,000 due to unforeseen sewer line conflicts, the need for increased Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant concrete at the skate park and road elevation design changes near Matlock Gas, the elimination of a drainage facility at Westridge Drive provided the city with an $84,000 credit. The remaining balance will be covered by capital project reserves located within the half-cent excise tax fund.

City secures $1 million loan with over half forgiven for waterline project

GLOBE, Ariz. — The city council adopted a resolution to accept a $1 million loan from the Water Infrastructure Finance Authority of Arizona to fund the city's matching requirements for the 595 waterline project out to the Gila County fairgrounds. Because of strategic applications by city staff, $512,500 of the loan is completely forgivable, meaning the city will only pay back 48.75 percent of the borrowed amount at a 4.67 percent interest rate. Public Works leadership praised the employee for his extensive historical knowledge of the city's underground utilities, noting that his expertise frequently saves crews time and money during excavations and repairs. The employee, who began his career on a garbage truck before moving through the wastewater plant and eventually into his current utility locator and training role, was celebrated as a reliable leader and mentor to new employees.

Ownership transfer approved for Connie's Store

GLOBE, Ariz. — The council unanimously approved an acquisition of control and agent change for the Series 9 liquor license at Connie's Store, located at 806 S. Jess Hayes Road. A new co-owner addressed the council regarding the ownership change following the passing of the previous owner. The new co-owner assured city leaders that the establishment will continue its operations and strive to provide excellent service to the communities of Globe and Miami.
