GARDEN CITY, Kan. — The Garden City Commission unanimously approved a resolution Tuesday to issue refunding revenue bonds for the Dogwood Energy Center. Refinancing the 2018 bonds at a lower interest rate will reduce debt service requirements for the city's 10.1 percent interest in the facility. The move is projected to save the city approximately $115,000 annually, totaling $1.37 million over the life of the bonds.

GARDEN CITY, Kan. — The Garden City Commission proclaimed the week of April 6–11, 2026, as Distracted Driving Awareness and Remembrance Week in honor of Cassandra Linder, a Garden City teen killed in a March 2023 head-on collision involving a distracted commercial truck driver. Her father, Todd Linder, spoke before the commission to thank them for the proclamation and to advocate for House Bill 2260 in the 2025-2026 legislative session. The proposed hands-free driving legislation, modeled after laws in Colorado and Missouri, aims to reduce the more than 100 traffic fatalities caused by distracted driving in Kansas each year.

GARDEN CITY, Kan. — During closing reports, the commission praised the Garden City Communications Department for a popular city-produced nostalgia video that recently sparked community interest online. City leaders also reminded residents that the annual Spring Cleanup event is scheduled for March 30 through April 10 and highlighted ongoing committee progress regarding the design and construction of the new Finney County Law Enforcement Center.
