Fort Riley hospital avoids federal downgrades, will maintain full medical services
U.S. Sen. Roger Marshall announces Irwin Army Community Hospital will not face planned service cuts
MANHATTAN, Kan. — U.S. Sen. Roger Marshall, R-Kan., announced last week that Irwin Army Community Hospital at Fort Riley will not face federal downgrades that had threatened to reduce the facility to an urgent care clinic. Following months of lobbying Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and advancing provisions in the fiscal year 2026 defense authorization bill, Marshall said the Defense Health Agency removed the hospital from its service change list, preserving emergency, surgical and maternity care. The reversal ensures uninterrupted medical access for active-duty troops, military families and an estimated 17,000 veterans across the Flint Hills region who rely on the installation.
