Fort Hays State official named new director of Hays Convention and Visitors Bureau

HAYS, Kan. — After nearly two decades at Fort Hays State University, Michelle “Nikki” Brown has been appointed as the new director of the Hays Convention and Visitors Bureau. Brown, who most recently served as the university's assistant director of career development, will begin her new role June 15, taking charge of efforts to promote the northwest Kansas community for leisure travel, conferences, tournaments and special events. City Manager Toby Dougherty praised her deep community connections and event-planning expertise, noting Thursday that her background leaves her well-positioned to serve as a strong ambassador for the city's broader economic profile.

Since 2010, Brown has held various leadership roles at the university in admissions, academic advising and career exploration, gaining extensive experience in public engagement, partnership development and marketing. Brown said she is eager to collaborate with community partners to share the city's history and culture, ultimately driving visitor activity to benefit local hotels, restaurants, retailers and event venues. She holds a master’s degree in education from Southwestern Oklahoma State University, a bachelor’s degree in communication from Slippery Rock University and an associate degree from Kansas City Kansas Community College.
