Former NASCAR Star Schrader Wins Modified Feature at Kansas State Fair

HUTCHINSON, Kan. (AP) — Former NASCAR driver Ken Schrader captured the IMCA Modified feature race Friday night at the Kansas State Fairgrounds, drawing more than 2,500 spectators to the dirt track event.

Schrader took the checkered flag ahead of William Nusser of Larned and Jake Nightingale of Hutchinson in the modified division's main event.

In other feature races, Mike Petersilie of Hoisington won the IMCA Stock Car division, with Scott Miller of Hutchinson finishing second and Brandon Massey of Valley Center placing third.

Jeremy Campbell of Wichita claimed victory in the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars, defeating Jordan Knight of Wright and Brian Herbert of Kinsley. Warren Huffman of Salina won the IMCA Northern SportMods race, followed by Kely Weins of Newton and Stacey Huffman, also from Salina.

Schrader, who competed in NASCAR's Cup Series for more than two decades, will make a public appearance Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 25 Steak & Social on East 30th Avenue in Hutchinson. The restaurant's soft opening event will include a $5 donation benefiting the Cancer Council of Reno County, with proceeds supporting pulled pork sandwiches, chips and drinks.

Racing continues Saturday night with a 100-lap Silver Crown main event, sprint car races and additional IMCA Modified features. Gates open at 5 p.m. with racing scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.

The Kansas State Fairgrounds hosts regular dirt track racing throughout the summer season as part of the state fair's entertainment programming.
